I don't know the answer to your specific question, but I guarantee there is no way I would put MY life in danger going after reckless climbers who deliberately chose the worst route up that mountain, in the worst kind of weather, at the worst time of year. People who engage in highly dangerous recreations, should do so at their own risk, or be prepared to pay into some kind of a rescue fund - perhaps in the form of an annual License. The mind boggles at the man hours and the expenses involved in the hunt for those three men on Mt. Hood It just strikes me as the most reckless and selfish disregard for the wives and families those men left to go on a purely self-gratifying escapade.
