No matter what people may say, it really all depends on your pain tolerance. While it's being done it's more like a tingly feeling. Sounds odd but that's the only way I can describe it. My husband says it feels more like road rash after it's done. I didn't really feel most of mine(any of them) while they were being done. And they itch for a bit while they are healing. Remember, you want to use Tattoo Goo on it. It has all natural ingredients in it and helps heal faster than anything else. NEVER use anything with a petroleum base,i.e.bacitracin,petroleum jelly. It suffocates the tattoo and doesn't allow it to breathe so it won't heal properly.
Hope this helps and good luck!!

It does hurt, but it's really not that bad. I guess it depends on your threshold for pain though. I've birthed 4 children without pain meds, so a tattoo is like a walk in the park compared to that!
With a tattoo, the first 10 minutes are pretty uncomfortable, but then your endorphins kick in a bit and the pain eases. Certain areas will hurt a little more than others depending on the person. The pain can also vary from artist to artist... some artists have a lighter touch than others.
It's sort of like a burning/scraping sensation.
Good Luck!

Each person has a different pain threshold, so what might be extremely painful for one person, may not be at all painful for another, or vice versa.
I'd say go to the artist who you have chosen (and seriously I would do my research before I make a final decision) and see if they give the option of performing a "dry run". I know of several tatoo artists who will do this. They will take the needle without ink across the area you are considering. Keep in mind though that when they add ink, it will likely sting a little more. I doubt there will be a huge difference though. However, if you find it to be too uncomfortable, they will probably charge you a fee for the needle being ruined. I would look into this option. It's great for first timers.
Honestly, it isn't as bad as you think it is. Your mind has a way of exaggerating possible consquences to the unknown.

With any tattoo there is bound to be some pain but it is not unbearable. The outline hurts the most and if your lucky, the area will be pretty much numbed by the time it needs to be colored in. I have 5 tattoos currently, each shoulder blade, lower back, stomach and leg. The worst was my lower back. Good Luck

Hi -
I got my first tattoo in July, 2nd one one week later and third one last Friday.. one on my leg, chest, and upper back.
They are more annoying than anything, just remember to eat first, and breath through the whole thing. When all done it will feel like a sunburn or skin abrasion, they really aren't too bad all in all the after care if very important, remember to wash with fragrance free soap and put lotion on that is fragrance free.. key word fragrance free.... I use Palmer's something or other lotion works great good luck.. on my last tattoo, I read a book while I was getting it done..

Everyone has a different threshold when it comes to pain. Some have a higher pain tolerance than others. Therefore one person may say it doesn't hurt then you'll go and be ready to get yours done and be complaining about the pain (if you do feel any). From personal experience, mine didn't hurt at all.

It depends on where you get your tat. For the most part it feels like a sunburn in the shower. Not to bad. However on you kidney or spine it is a little more intense. Once it is finished it does not really hurt at all and while they are doing it you will more thank likley go numb in the area that they are working. YOU CAN DO IT!

It all depends on your personal tolerance for pain.
Women are more often able to handle the pain of a tattoo better then men, because they have spent their lives since puberty learning to live with regularly recurring pain.
Men are not so fortunate. That is why you see a lot of jocks faint at the sight of their own blood.
In short, you would be able to answer your question better than us, because you know what sort of tolerance for pain you have.

I won't lie to you - it does hurt. But it's not like an unbearable pain. At first it stings and then after a few minutes it just feels like an intense buzzing and personally I kinda go numb somewhere in the middle. People wouldn't keep going back for more if it was that awful!
