I have an R reg 1997 1.9 diesel Renault Megane Scenic, and I need to find out whether or not it has ABS brakes as standard. On two occasions now the wheels have locked up under breaking. If the car has ABS should this not happen? We bought the car 2nd hand in Oct 06. If it should have ABS then does it mean that this is not working and should I be able to go back to the dealer and ask him to put it right.

I believe so. Your dealer will or should tell you and if you do have the original handbook, it'll tell you in there. Failing that, ring Renuult Customer direct on 0800 525150

Without a chassis number it is notpossible to tell you for sure whether or not it does. If the wheels are locking up it would suggest that it doesn't. If it did but the abs wasn't working, usually caused by a faulty abs sensor on one of the wheels, then a abs fault light would be lit on the dash. This would be easily recognisable as the light would actually say ABS.

If you are carrying children in the car i would suggest trading in for a model with ABS as this is a big safety issue.

I also have driven 3 scenics, it should be fitted as standard. I checked my handbook and the information is a bit sparce. Ask your renault dealership, they will have the make and parts on computer.
If you need to check, then it is a warranty job, if you have been mis-sold.
