I am getting new carpet installed that my wife and I are concerned about getting it stained. It's lighter than we thought and we have two young kids. I am thinking about trying some stain guard products. Any opinions based on experience or research? Thanks!

Since I have lots of animals, I consistently use Stain Guard on my carpets, (Scotch Guard). Make sure you have adequate ventilation, which you want to do anyway with the chemicals in the new carpet. Spray liberally everywhere, including under furniture (I would advise you to leave the furniture out for the first application).
Scotch Guard and other topical applications, need to be re-applied, so make sure you repeat every couple of months or as directed on the label.
