If you're 18 and they are fourteen, it's a problem.

If you're 22 and they are 18, it's not.

Also state laws vary on this. ie: 17 is age of consent in my state, but only if the person is no more that 3 years older than you. So at 17 you cannot go out with a 21 year old person. 17 and 20 are OK though. Once you reach 18, they can be 35, if you so desire.
These laws vary, big time from state to state.

When I was dating in the 70's, it was not uncommon for an older boy or very young man to date a girl in her mid-teens. Now, laws in most states prevent that. My point is that attitudes on the matter change back and forth.

I do not think gender matters at all.

My sister is a decade older then her husband and they have been married 30 years He was 25 when they married and now is 55, she is 65.

Example if your a man and the girl is younger than you... and your 21 and she's 17 then its wrong if the girl or guy is to young to even be dating then its wrong but for example if your 28 and there 24 theres nothing wrong with it at all even if your 50 and there 46 theres nothing wrong with it at all! If you're 18 and he/she's under 16 (in most states), then, yes...it's illegal too! But I'm 9 yrs younger than my spouse (we met when I was in my 20's)...nothing wrong about THAT!
