That's a fine idea....but "working" your way to salvation is not the answer. "Goodness" is wonderful, but without God's Grace and faith in His Son, you will always fall short of the mark...and - the mark is perfection. Perfection found in the all sufficient Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. God does not grade on the curve.
How good is "good enough"? It's never enough.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

I agree, but your philosophy won't gel with organized religion. They can't make money and influence people if they don't set up enemies and 'devils' against which they struggle.

Your partly right, religion won't get you to Heaven.
Only a relationship with Christ can do that.
