There is this spray stuff, I can't think of the name,it's dog repellent. Hartz makes one (Wall-mart carries it) and the chain pet stores sell a similar product. Works like a charm. I have male dogs too, the tree just saves them the trouble of going outside! You spray this stuff on (it stinks at first) and they stay away. You have to spray everyday, it only lasts 24 hours. But I have found they do tend to stay away if you miss a day.

I love this stuff. I tested it by putting leftover sloppy joes on top on the garbage. Dragged it into the middle of the kitchen....sprayed it down.....and the dogs ran from it!!! I swear by this product, to think I don't even know the name of it! LOL!

For one thing once a dog starts doing something in a certain place it will continue to do so because of smell. If it's on the carpet as well you can buy this one gallon stuff at the store that masks it. So one obvious thing is to move the tree somewhere else for a while. Especially somewhere where you can see it most of the time.

When the dog even gets near the tree give it a stern "no". If you actually catch the dog do the "no" really loud, jump up and if it runs chase it. Get the dog and put its nose in it saying bad dog, etc. Its the tone that works. Then ignore the dog for a little while. This is the tried and true method to stop this. It takes patience but after a while you will find you dog more attentive in other areas as well.

Not sure if this is your dog and/or tree. But if it's your dog and a tree in your yard....I suggest taking your dog out on a leash. Train him to go in YOUR desired spot (in our year it in the corner). When you take him out, say go in the "corner". After a while...let him out on his own...and tell him to go to the corner. Make sure you reward him for going in the correct spot.

Remove the tree......the dog has already marked it.

You can't. Natural instinct.
