When Osiris is said to bring his believers eternal life in Egyptian Heaven we understand that as a myth.

Ancient people believed in eternal life, with the good going to the Elysian Fields and the not so good going to Hades, we understand that as a myth.

When Vespatian's spittle healed a blind man, we understand that as a myth.

When Apollonius of Tyana raised a girl from death, we understand that as a myth.

When Dionysus turned water into wine, we understand that as a myth. When Dionysus believers are filled with atay, the Spirit of God, we understand that as a myth.

So how come when Jesus is described as
the Son of God, born of a mortal woman, turning water into wine, raising the dead, and healing blind men and His believers got eternal life in Heaven and off to Hades—er, I mean Hell—for the non-belivers...Why is this real?

When you list it all out like that it does make it seem even little less real. In fact, every time I see these things pointed out it makes me amazed that people still believe it. Jesus is the best of every myth rolled into one. I guess it's really just that people don't know of the other stories before this one. Go to any Christian church and ask around. They'll have no idea that Jesus wasn't the first savior to be resurrected.

I feel where you are coming from! Even in ancient times there was a god for everything which is known now as Greek Mythology. They believed in that back then, but we don't now. What makes our "god" the right god? How much of the Bible is real anyway? Almost all of it was passed down by word of mouth and we all know how a simple story ends up being completley embellished once its even reached about the 10th person. So how much of the Bible is embellished? My opinion: all of it. People can disagree with me but its only b/c they've been conformed to believe in what has become the general consensus on how we got here. The bible is not factual at all. People who documented anything that could disprove the church, the documents were destroyed. Even the people that wrote them were sometimes killed! So I guess we'll all find out when we die.

What is real?
When millions of people get together and believe in one thing, that is what makes it real, no matter how fake. If a billion people believe star trek is real, that the Vulcan's will come and bring logic to the Earth, if they spend their lives believing this and acting on this belief than to them it is real.
For me Christianity is the same as star trek, fiction. For Christians there is nothing more real, people with this faith can cure their own cancer, thanking God the whole time, they can feel at peace with their own mortality and the mortality of loved ones. They can seek guidance from a manual when confused. They can live their entire lives never once faltering in their conviction that God has asked the middle eastern people of 6 and 4 thousand years ago to write a book and that is the only thing God has to say until the end of the world.

Real? According to who or what? It is real only to those who believe it's real.

I believe that the only one truth is that there is no one truth.

Your truth is unique unto you and all is well. Some people see the glass as half full, some see it as half empty, some think the glass is just too fricken big in the first place.

See how that works. So why don't we all just be a little tolerant with one another and celebrate that we live in a realm of delicious contrast where not all things are the same.

Think if we all thought alike and acted the same way.

Now that would be hell. Celebrate contrast and uniqueness and experience Heaven on Earth.

If I had to guess, I would say it is because Christianity is the world's most widely followed religion, with over 1/3 of the world's population being Christian.

"With an estimated 2.1 billion adherents in 2001, Christianity is the world's largest religion. It is the predominant religion in the Americas, Europe, Philippine Islands, Oceania, and large parts of Africa (see Christianity by country). It is also growing rapidly in Asia, particularly in China and South Korea, and in Northern Africa."

When you compare 1/3 of the world's population as current practisioners of the Christian faith to however many small followers Greek and Roman Mythology might still have, I think there is no question as to why one is called a myth and the other is not.

Christians, in general, are a close-minded people who believe that their way of life and their beliefs are the only ones in existence that makes sense. Well, thousands of years ago, the common beliefs that you have described seemed to make sense. It was only because Jesus was a martyr that they make him out to be real. Granted, he very well could have been a real human being, but it is doubtful that he did all these wonderful things the Christians have come to put so much faith into. For example, the fact that Jesus was from the middle-east is upsetting to a lot of Christians. Of course, the natural course of action would be to make him white, not make him look like he runs your local 7/11. Then, throw in the fact that he walked on water (which, of course, a sandbar could aid in) and you have yourself a deity.
But what of the pesky First Commandment, stating that to gain access to Heaven, one must believe in ONE God? Just say that Jesus *is* God! Problem solved! While the Romans were the ones to have several Gods for several things (sun, moon, hearth, etc...), the JEWS were the first ones to claim monotheism. Of course, they were most likely right, so the best thing to do would be to kill them off! Most people forget that Jesus was the "King of the Jews", yet active members of the KKK insist that he was American... but, then again, so do Mormons.
To actually answer your question, ignorance is bliss, and for most people, not knowing the true answer to life is a way to achieve their happiness. However, while ignorance may be bliss, we also know that Knowledge is Power. What would you rather have? Me? I choose knowledge.

Because the Roman Empire converted to Christianity, and they had more swords than anybody else.

Then, after the fall of Rome, the Vatican maintained its power. Throughout the dark ages, you were killed for believing other things. At first, people faked it because they didn't like the idea of being killed. However, within a few generations, people began to blindly accept this faith, and they passed it down to their children.

Why is this religion accepted.... VIOLENCE! The guy with the most weapons and the biggest army believed it.

Here's my 2 cents worth...I always thought about this as something very clever on Satan's part.

In the beginning, man has always worshipped only one God...but after Satan rebelled, Adam sinned, nephilim's came, the great flood cleansed the world, the people created the tower of Babel and they were scattered around the world on different languages...Satan has been putting up confusion by creating gods and goddesses in many parts of the world....that is so later on, we cannot distinguish which the real one is....He (satan) however failed to that because no matter how much he try to destroy the True God and his religion, he cannot, he can cover it or hide it but not destroy it...

I do believe that the bible is the living word of God...the many prophecies fullfilled in it holds more reliablity than any other book...so I do believe that what it says of Jesus is all real. and there are other secular references of his existence too.

That's because some Gods are a myth and some are a hyth. A hyth is always better than a myth. Ask any hunter.

Because the Roman Empire was Catholic and they Conquered, History is written by the winners. Any religion not of a Catholic denomination was seen as a myth, heathens or fables. If the world was Conquered by the Church of Scientology, do you think that then Jesus would be a myth?
