I have this band teacher who is very beautiful, smart, and she is 22 years old. We talk and hang out like friends alot. I know that she wants this to be more but i'm not sure if i should. i'm a 17 year old senior in high school and i'm about to graduate and turn 18. If i dont pursue this now, i'll leave for the air force and wont get a chance to pursue this relationship. Should i wait till i graduate, should i pursue this now, or am i just crazy for liking a teacher.

You cannot help who you like
You can however, be adult enough and responsible enough to realize that this is a taboo relationship and very well could end her teaching career.
Leave it alone- let life take you on your own journey and if it is true " meant to be " relationship then you will one day migrate back towards each other when there are no repercussions for your actions.

Cesar,

Your teacher has crossed a big ethical line - and she should back off.

You and her are very close in age, so I can see why she think's it's OK to hang out with you - she probably has friends your age, so it's natural for her to want to hang out with a 17 year old.

And she's probably thought about dating you too - even though you will still be underaged for a couple of months.

But, irregardless of age, she is not supposed to be hanging out socially with students. There is supposed to be a professional relationship between students and their teacher, and you have to keep a certain professional distance between yourself as a teacher and your students.

Ever wondered why we make you call us "Mr Rivera" or "Miss Sanchez" or "Mrs Ramirez" - but we call you by your first name?

That's a device to put distance between us and you - we need to have that boundary between you as a student and ourselves as a teacher to do our job effectively.

Your teacher has stepped way over that line! She's on the verge of dating you - and that's not only unethical, it's outright illegal.

We can lose our license for dating a student! And if we have sex with an underaged student, or any other minor, we can go to jail (although this is far more common for male teachers than it is for females!)

So, you'd be doing your friend a great diservice to date her while you're still her student.

Here's an idea - when you're in the Air Force, you can write her, and phone her, and you can come home and visit her when you're on leave.

Then, her relationship with you would be OK, since it's no longer a teacher-student relationship.

But, in her case, she should be careful about socializing with the students - it will hurt her professionallly as a teacher to do that.

The other kids will figure out she's closer to one of the students than to the rest of them, they will resent it, some of them will act out in class and one of them might even report her to the principal and/or the School District.

You need to wait until you turn 18 and graduate, then have fun. If you make any moves before that you'll be putting her in a position where she'll likely never be able to teach again and may even end up in jail. Keep your pants on!

Dear Cesar. You are 5 years younger than her. It's a lot at your age. Your teacher can't date you. That's illegal. Graduate, go away and see if it lasts.

No it would be unwise. Your whole world is in front of you. Just keep it casual with her. Establish your career in the armed forces before you even consider dating anyone. A man who knows where he is going career wise attracts the best women. The best to you and thank you that you will be serving our country.

She will lose her job if you don't wait. She is definately crossing boundries by making you feel like she wants to date you. As a teacher that is morally wrong.

I knew a student that ended up marrying a teacher. And a couple more who dated teachers.
Go for it. Ethics have been molded by things going wrong in student teacher relations...not right. Nothing wrong with it.
