Department of Family Services. You can even call anonymously.

This is hard for you as you know them so what ever you do please don't tell them as you stand to loose and have a headache from it all. In it you don't say how often, but taking drugs is very harm-full to a baby, regular use means for certain that the baby will be an addict when born into this world and that is the worse start and most painfull for any new born to undertake and the lives will always be effected by this and so to there health. To be on the safe side make a call to the children's help line its the nspcc they can take a look into the situation and do what ever needs to be done also try social services although i don't rate them on this so maybe child line. Its hard and you feel towards the baby, which given the facts maybe your the only one that can give this baby a chance even though its only a phone call. You have the knowledge then of knowing you tried also maybe it will take the blinkers from the would be mothers eyes to see what harm she is doing to her unborn. Take care.

Firstly, are you sure? If you are not, the authorities cannot act anyway and you're just waste your time and theirs.

Secondly, yes you should report it to social services or whatever similiar body is set up where you live.

I should let you know however not to expect too much. There is little most people can do about another persons self-destructive behaviour, even if that behaviour impacts a child (unborn or otherwise).

You can't solve the problems of the world. The best you can do is just work in the right direction. Good luck.

Obviously taking drugs during pregnancy is totally wrong and I don't condone it for a second. But taking cocaine WHILE pregnant isn't any more serious a crime in the eyes of the law than taking cocaine while not pregnant. In the same way that if she wanted to drink 2 bottles of wine a day, there is only so much that the police can do, apart from confront her about the cocaine use. If they find evidence, they might prosecute her or caution her. But they are unlikely to find evidence because they aren't going to get a search warrant for her home.
If social services knew, they would keep a much closer eye on her and her child. She might be able to get some help to quit, but she doesn't sound the the kind of person who cares.
If you want to report it, go to social services, not the police. The police are unlikely to do much. Social services may try to help.

Yes you can. Although I would think that, presuming she is having checks every month with the midwife they will already be aware of it. I would contact Social Services/Child Protection and see what they say. You can do it anonymously and not only do they listen they will take action or give you advise on what to do next.

You have every right to be concerned. This poor baby did not ask to be brought into the world. And certainly does not want to go through the cold turkey phase after birth. Women like this disgrace me. They may not want to give up for themselves but they should do it for their child. I smoked 30 cigs a day and as soon as I found I was pregnant I quit. No patches, no nothing my child was incentive enough!

I'm not sure if you're in the UK or US, but I had a similar problem, I know a girl who was taking a number of drugs whilst pregnant, the baby is nearly one, extremely small for that age, is not looked after well at all or even fed solids, just a bottle. She and her violent partner continue to take drugs and move from squat to squat. I have tried for the sake of this poor baby to do something, I spoke to social services and childline, a telephone helpline in the UK. A friend did the same thing. Sadly nothing was ever done, the social services just keep giving her more money to buy a cot, pram etc, but it gets spent on drugs. I feel very sad and sorry for this baby but I'm afraid it has been failed.

I'm going to go against the pack here...if you don't even know this person, how can you be sure? It's really not something you should take on as your personal mission....if you want to make a difference, why don't you spend your time and energy helping kids who are already born and in need?
Don't file reports based on hearsay about people you've never met. Chances are good there are people who know the woman who have a reason to make this a concern for them, and will get a lot farther in effective intervention.

If you don't know the person personally how do you know that they are using cocaine? I hope you are not someone who has nothing better to do but gossip about others. I presume the said person has a family and friends who would know exactly what is going on anyway. Sorry, but I think you should mind your own business instead of 'spreading the poison' which is very hurtful.

DCFS, You can call in all secretive. Then you need her name and stuff. It's so messed up that dumb *** "moms" can't even give up their adictions for 9 months of their lives so that their babies can have a chance at life. So what the state will do is do a drug test on her and then once the baby is born, they will be right there in the room and take that baby right away before she can even say a word to that baby. It's the truth because I knew this screwed up lady that did that same thing, she did meth while being pregnant and the state waited for the baby to be born and took it right to state custody. It's the sadest thing. But that's what needs to happen. So handle it girl, call them NOW!!

You're talking about Clare from Hollyoaks, aren't you?

Of course, class A drug possession is illegal, so if you are that concerned, call the police and if they find her in possession of coke, she will get arrested. On a personal level, I'd advise unless you feel really strongly about it, don't - cocaine dealers are big shots, and if the police quiz this woman, and she reveals who's supplying her, and so on up the chain, someone would probably find out you were the original 'grass'. Try to protect your anonymity at all times if you go ahead.
