I'm moving 2 bedrooms, living room, and dining room worth of stuff. What do you think the appropriate tip amount is?
Also do I tip the guys picking up the stuff, or dropping off the stuff? I would think you don't tip till the job is done.

It really depends on the quality of the work of the movers (packing and shipping AND receiving and unpacking) and the quantity of your items. $50-$100 is a good range for tipping.

You could also use a 10%-15% tip of the total of your moving bill. 10% for fair, 15% for very good, 20% for great. You'd divvy up the total tip among the number of workers.

:-)

I just moved cross country so I am very familiar with the problem. It all depends on how tough your move is. I have lots of heavy furniture, antiques and stuff. The guys who picked up the stuff were different from the guys who will deliver. I am a generous tipper because these guys could really hurt themselves on the job and probably don't have benefits. They did a great job in under two hours and I gave them $50 each. The drop-off guys will have to climb an incline to get to our front door and it will be right before Christmas so we'll probably give them an even more generous tip.

If it all the same guys then tip at the end.

If they move your things carefully and do a good job give them a generous tip. If they try to tear up everything you own and don't care about the job they are doing, it should be no tip. Just be spontaneous. You don't owe people a tip, a tip is a reward.

I had 3 guys help me move out of an apartment after Hurricane Andrew hit Miami and they worked like maniacs. We were all soaked with sweat and exhausted. I gave them each $100 as a tip because they were angels to me.

I'm going 2 agree with you on the part were you said that you shouldn't tip until the job is done, but I think that you should tip the person who does the best job.Somebody that doesn't brake any of your things and makes sure that it is packed into the moving van.
