I hear a lot of parents complain about what is shown on television, how degrading and how violent it is. Many of these parents beging to write letters and form organizations to ban such material but what I was thinking was, do they ever stop and try to actually use these new parental controls that are available in most new televisions. I have an old television that I bought in 2002, yet it has a parental V-Chip with password protection and I can set it to where it would block anything rated Teen and above. This is technology is not new and has been out for a while, it has been refined and redone, but why do parents still try to complain about what the television shows. It is very simple, block the content, put a password and go on with your life. Is that really too hard?

My guess is that doesn't solve their problem. Why is raunchy television suddenly the norm? Why can't those who want it just subscribe to violent/sexual stations? At this point, parents would have to block every channel and almost every program to keep inappropriate content out of their homes.

My kid overrode the password after 2 days of trying. Needless to say, we don't have cable anymore. But, I think many parents just come to a point where they realize they need to pick their battles, and for them, it appears this isn't one of them for some reason.
