steph..i believe every kid should have a chance in life.
i dont have a problem with parents teaching their kids about the faith their parents are in...as long as they are able to make up their mind when theyre old enough.....
but rote learning in religious matters is simply no different to brainwashing.
no kid should have that foisted on them by their school!

and theres more steph...! unlike other idiots who expect a person to click on their entry before they know what the question is...i believe in trying to indicate as much as i can of my question in the main heading.
this sometimes necessitates unusual contractions of words in order to fit the question in whilst maintaining legibility.
i dont know if youre a nit picker by nature or whether this is an isolated outburst on your part so i thought id go to the trouble of explain my inovative vocabulary!

I don't think children should be learning religious texts especially not in school. If they want to, then it should be done in their own time. I feel it should also be researched independently and not "fed" to them by brainwashing religious types.
To say that it makes children better people for reading religious texts is absolute crap.

Catweaszle Hello,

Well it is a traditional form of learning for some peoples. People are encouraged in this western world to meditate in a similar way. They even use visualisation techniques on children in schools which in fact are a form of hypnosis. So how far should any intervention go?

What I find appalling is your spelling.

Teaching religion to children isn't brainwashing or abuse. Try looking those words up. It is the right of the parents to raise their kids in faith if they so choose. You have no say in how someone does things, especially when it doesn't pertain to you or harm the child.

I believe kids should be taught religion but only if they want to learn. Also the way it should be taught should not be in a way inwhich it comes across as being the truth. And not only christianity should be taught all of the religions should be taught (as long as the person wants to learn). That way the kid can decide what they want to believe instead of being forced into believing.

exactly which part of this is child abuse?

the fact that the child grows to be a better individual? the fact that what the child repeats, is memorised and hence he/she has a better memory power for the rest of his/her life?
or is it that at least the child has an understanding of the religion, rather than be confused with them all?
