I've heard it, but I must disagree. When a HISTORY MAJOR in my 300 level history course asked what the first state was, that was a stupid question.

In some cases their is. If you are asking an honest questions that you don't know the answer, then ther is no such thing as a stupid question.

Example: Your boss gives you a job & you are not clear what to do. Do you ask him to clarify what he wants done or would you proceed? Later a person gets killed because you missed an part on the job & was afraid to ask a question you thought might be stupid?

I guess there is no such thing as an honest stupid question. If a person asks something that seems silly or stupid but is an honest question that the asker wants an honest answer to then it really isn't stupid. (just because the rest of us think its stupid that person may be really confused, slow or just odd.)

So the answer is yes there are stupid questions but any honest question isn't stupid.

I've heard it but if you read through some of the areas of this board, you have to wonder. The meaning of the quote is probably that even an obvious question may spark a different response in some people, and what we think may be an obvious question might be brand new for someone else.

But some of the questions around here? Sheesh

Not this one, by the way.

Yes, I have heard of it but I disagree. In my opinion a stupid question is asked when the person asking already knows the answer.

I have never agreed with this statement. Lets think about this for a miniute. How many times have someone asked you a stupid question and you thought this person has no sense at all. They are out there, and only the stupid ask equally stupid questions

Wow, that was a stupid question.

((Insert rimshot here))

I disagree because some questions are sincere and curious which is good and others are asked out of pure ignorance. For example, when I see the video of a drunken Britney Spears asking about time travel...well, I can only deduct that this is a purely stupid question.

earlier I answer i'd opt for to assert i recognize your avatar (i recognize cats) i'd disagree there isn't any such element as a stupid question till a stupid individual is calling it (to a stupid individual it wouldent be a stupid question ).

I agree with the statement as long as it is the first time the question is being asked. You ask the question again, then yes it is stupid.

I disagree. People who ask questions to be funny or to insult are asking stupid questions. And Yahoo answers is not the correct venue for them. I hope yahoo starts revoking user id for people who repeatedly abuse this needed service.
