I'm going to the doctor this afternoon, but my back is killing me right now. Is there anything I can do to deal with the pain?

We've had excellent results using magnesium to help spasms. It helps to relax the muscles. Start slowly because if you take too much, you will have loose bowels. Don't use Spring Valley brand. It doesn't work.

I've had spasms too - I know, they're awful.

Obviously, any painkillers or muscle relaxants can help. I also find hot packs and ice to be wonderful.

Also, I know it's hard, but your muscles are tensing up (causing more pain) if you can at all try some deep breathing or anything to relax yourself as much as possible that will help a bit too.

good luck.

Study yoga.
The practice is great for spinal health.

I would go to the chiropractor, take a pain killer. You might have dislocated something.
