Muslim is the person, Islam is the religion.

As in "I believe in Judaism. I am a Jew"
"I believe in Christianity. I am a Christian"
"I believe in Islam. I am a Muslim"

The term Muslim comes from the original Mussulman. It is the original term in Turkish and Persian for one of the faith of Islam..

"Musulmán" is also the Spanish translation of "Muslim," as well as the Persian word for "Muslim." In addition to the Persian dialect Dari, it is also found in Pashto, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, and Bosnian.
