Have some class and don't try to be a slob.

If your boyfriend got completely hammered, hit on your boss, and ended the night puking in the girls bathroom, I would definitly say that he needs a serious talking to! But considering he just broke dress etiquette, I am not sure I would bring it up. Afterall, there's nothing to be done about it now, and bringing it up now might hurt his feelings. Did you inform him what he would be expected to wear? Although it seems that people should have some common sense when attending these social fuctions, sometimes people need to be told. I would let this one slide, and just make sure to lay out an outfit for him next time. ;)

Tell him out straight, I guess. Surely he cares about your feelings and would like your colleagues to think you are a thoughtful person?
You could ask him "Well, I took a lot of time & trouble to look my best that evening. How come you didn't change your clothes? Do you dislike that restaurant? Would you prefer not to be asked along next year?"
Or you could talk about the best-dressed guy there, how great he looked, how he really deserves his promotion, and he'll get the hint!

Well, it sounds like its a too late now. However, in passing conversation ask him why he didn't get dressed up? If he sees nothing wrong with what he wore, explain to him that people generally dress up for Christmas parties; he may not have known that is was one to dress up for. Men are kind of clueless that way - they just don't know any better. In the future now, you'll be able to let him know in advance how he needs to be dressed for future parties. Now you know.

Did you tell him what kind of attire was expected for the occasion? If not, then do not say anything. If he was aware of the attire and still came looking like that, sit him down and tell him how disappointed it made you feel. Try not to make a big deal out of it but sometime it all boils down to being a responsible person.

Just come right out and say it! That was completely disrespectful. Anyone with common sense would know to dress decently for a christmas party!

Just explain to him that there's a time and a place for everything and that party was not the time or place to show up looking like a bum. If you can't trust his judgement with small issues like this, how can you trust him with the important decisions in a relationship?

Just tell him about it. Ask him to dress up nicely the next time you go to an event. If he needs help in choosing what to wear, help him.

Does he usually dress this way? Has he ever gotten dressed up? He may have done it unintentionally.
Just ask him what he thought of the situation. Then emphasize what he should do next time.
