i used to date his daughters dorm roomate a couple years back and saw him on tv this morning. she told me that he has the ability to heal people honestly. I said ok all BS aside. have you seen him heal anyone. She said yes. So back to the question at hand. Do you think those people are paid? or does he really have the ability to transfer energy to knock someone over without touch?

I think it's all psychology. These people WANT to have that kind of experience. They think they are SUPPOSED to pass out like that. So, they do. I think they honestly pass out or whatever, but only because they have programmed themselves to do it. It is called a self-fulfilling prophecy.

As for healing, for many people, the key to healing is psychology (again). If they think they CAN heal, then they will. If they honestly think that this guy touching them will heal them, then after being touched they will psychologically open up to the healing process. Again, they THINK they will heal, so they will.

People just get caught up in the moment and the emotion they themselves create and subconsciously do what they think they should be doing in a situation like that. It isn't real.

Isn't it amazing that nobody ever does follow-up studies with these people to see if they actually *are* healed?

Chronic pain isn't always physical in nature. For instance, think of the times where you are "stressed out" (i.e. you're thinking about stressful or bad things). Your muscles (neck, shoulders, lower back) will start to contract and begin to hurt. When you relieve the stressful cognitive source, your body will start to feel better. Same deal with all these Benny Hinn things. While they appear miraculous, there's nothing fancy going on beyond a stress/reducation reaction. There's basically a placebo effect ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placebo ) that's going on inside the minds of the believers. I'll tell you you're going to get better, and voila! - you're better! If you'd like to attribute the effect to pills instead, we can give you sugar pills - you will report feeling better. Are sugar pills also 'divinely inspired'? Same difference.

If that still doesn't convince you - remember, our brains can release endorphines ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endorphin) naturally. That's how you get these people that "never walked before!" to walk across the stage. Sure, they can do it when they have a million people cheering them on and looking at them while Benny Hinn helps them across the stage - they're temporarily drugged up on their own endorphines. But once they wear off, they'll be just as crippled as they always were. Does Benny Hinn guarantee long-lasting healing effects for months, or even *YEARS* down the road? Of course not. And I have yet to hear about anyone who has.

The power is from the Holy Spirit, not Benny Hinn. I Don't think they are paid. Its called being slayed in the spirit, it can be faked, but it is real. God does the healing, we do the praying and believing.

Yes and no. I was raised in a charismatic church and have experienced the falling-over (or, in the jargon, "slain in the Spirit") myself. There's definitely something, but as the only place I've ever known it to happen is in an incredibly frenzied room of over-excited people, I lean towards buildup of energy and, in a sense, mental exhaustion from being so over-hyped. I can only imagine how much more that over-excitement would be with a television evangelist.

Benny Hinn is one of the most evil of the "evangelist" preachers - preying on the weak and vulnerable.

Of course he can't heal the sick!

I was in Nairobi when he held a rally there - taking money from people who don't earn in five years what one of his fancy suits costs.

An evil parasite.
