I think it's too play and out of boredom, get them a toy to play with

its actually a physocilogical problem! it happens cuz no barriers r put up telling ur dog not to do this! i would strongly recommend breaking this habit! when ever ur dog goes to bite/chase his/her tail make a loud "shh" noise and take two fingers and kinda of tap the dog on the base of its neck! repeat each time the dog does this! now this is gunna take a long time to break this habit but its all for the well being of ur dog! hope this helps! good luck!=)

I think every once in a while they notice it out of the corner of their eye and they think it's another animal. They don't have the ability to reason that the tail they see is their own. It's either that or they have an itch back there that they can't reach.

LOL my youngest dog does that.
he doesn't do it all the time but when he gets into really play'n and haveing fun he starts chaseing his tail.

A smart dog! I see a;ny dog who chases their tails as being brilliant! They can occupy themselves! As long as he doesn't have a sin disease, let him do it

their tails are aggravating to dogs if they see them and cant catch up to them. not just there tails its anything they cant get.

It's just a temptation that they constantly try to conquer because it like teases them, but they can't seem to succeed.
