Ok spasms of the diaphram, but how does that happen.. you know like yawning is caused by lack of oxygen when your tired..... so why do we get hiccups?

PEPSI, TOO MUCH FOOD, i know what can stop hiccups, scaring some one when they have got a hiccup, stops the hiccup.

hiccups are caused by muscles spasms of your diaphragm

I get hiccups everytime I eat raw carrots, so maybe it has something to do with the swallowing.

As i understand it . Air get,s trap,ed in your esophagus and that is your body trying to clear it. I don't remember where i read that. I think it was in a public health pamplet in a doctor,s office.
