i think your better off with a real board, longboards ride alot more different then longboards, long boards go faster, and turn looser, if you want, get a real board, but loosen the trucks to your liking, if you have a normal board, learning to do tricks will come alot faster than if you practice your riding with a longboard, you want to get the feel of the board, so your not getting used to two different types of boards

not really but if you want some style and stability you could start out with an old school shape i recommend the pool school model on this site:
http://www.eastbilt.com/old_school.htm
those have a typically longer wheelbase and if you keep your trucks loose you should be able to carve and ride real smooth but still have the option for a kick turn or tic-tacs, even ollie. get some trucks that are as wide as the board and some 63mm wheels and some truck spacers. that'd be a smooth ride, try carving around stuff.
but if you are going to try flip tricks and such it'd be easier on a new school deck. but you can get another board for that, you cant have just one.

They are cruisers but fairly unpratical. It´s hard to bomb through town with them cause it´s kinda hard to pop over cracks tracks and curbs. Buy a real board there cheaper and much more realistic. Also if you eventually want to learn nollie frontside flips it´s ready when you are. 758
