While often the science and technology portrayed in the series (as well as the other CSI series) is accurate or mirrors sound scientific principle, there have been times when methods have led to results simply not possible in the real world.

The equipment is real although the speed of the results, the type of the results and other factors (such as scientists questioning witnessess) is false. A CSI lab never questions the witness or the suspect and the results might take weeks or even years to figure out. Also labs are drastically back loaded so they would be working not only on fresh crimes, but old crimes as well.

there are also different departments specializing in different aspects in real life...in CSI the characters know everything - but IRL it needs so much more people to do the job then just a team of a few.
