I would feel the same.I am sorry. Buy one that looks exactly like your bird so you won't be as sad.

I don't think it's silly to feel this way. My b/f does this with all of our pets that have died. We foster dogs and we have to give them up to their "forever homes", he even "mourns" that loss. Mourning is a natural part of the human experience. Everyone does it differently. Some do it over all life, some just over human relatives. I for example, grew up on a farm, and see death as a natural part of life and do not take it as hard as some people.
I don't recommend, however, going right out and purchasing another bird or birds until you have fully dealt with the loss of this one. If you get one too early, you will just be comparing the new one to the old one and have certain expectation of it that it may not live up to and you may not be happy with the new one.
IMO, deal with your loss FIRST, then move on to a new "friend".

yes.. i feel your pain only because i had a parakeet who died of
natural causes such as : over grown claw ( i forgot to clip it and when she went to scratch her foot... the nail drove her nuts, fell to the ground and passed away soon after and i was heart broken and so i made a casket for her, dug a hole bout 3-4 feet deep put flower o the casket and then poored the dirt over the casket, said a prayer to god about my parakeet etc... then i made a tombstone with: R.I.P Here lies... she lived a good long fufilling life and then she passed away in my arms quietly and cryed with heavey tears of sadness etc.. then i put " Lived From Then Died At so and so. then i bought a new female skyblue & white parkeet. and lived happily ever after.

Its not silly to mourn the death of your pet.
You might want to clean up the cage with hot soapy water and get yourself a new parakeet so one has a real home for Christmas, they dont' cost too much.

Your lovebird in all probability killed him. they might have appeared like terrific pals, yet lovebirds are very territorial. are not getting yet another budgie/parakeet, as he will in all probability kill it. Get yet another lovebird (comparable species!), opposite gender. would not rely what mutation, in simple terms verify it relatively is the comparable species (i.e. if he's a peach confronted, get him a peach confronted, opposite gender).

When I was young my pet tourtle died infront of me. I burried it myself and remember I felt really sad.
Time will heal your loss.
