In New York City, teachers are not allowed to accept a gift from a student or parent that costs more than $ 10 - it's considered a "conflict of interest". I doubt you could get a good wine for less than ten bucks.
Also, the teacher might be Muslim, or Jehovas Witness, or Mormon, or a recovering alcoholic - a lot of people don't drink, so if you don't know for a fact that they do drink, you might want to reconsider alcohol as a gift.
Here's an idea - how about a christmas card, with a nice handwritten note inside? Talk about how much you appreicate the teacher, and how much they've helped your child during the year! That would be much more sincere and heartfelt than a bottle of booze!

Its a known fact that teachers have one of the most difficult jobs. Although it is acceptable to give a bottle of wine the correct thing to do is to provide something with more proof like wiskey or vodka. If you had to work with the brats these days wine just wouldn't cut it. Vodka gets extra points because the teacher will be able to take shots during the day and it will not produce an alcohol smell on their breath.

Unless you are a close and personal friend and can deliver it outside of where the other students and parents would see it - don't give that gift.
What would your impression be of a teacher carrying a bottle of wine around small children? Not a very positive one.
Instead, a better choice might be a gift certificate to a store that has the wine. That way they can purchase it away from kid's and parent's eyes and select a bottle of wine they like.

Yes it would be okay but first you better find out if it is okay with the school to send that kind of gift. Also find out if the teacher drinks wine she maybe religious but some religious people believe in drinking a little wine once awhile . Have a merry christmas..suzie

Heck yes! A lot of teachers would be fortified with a little snort in the middle of the day... especially when school is in session. If you really want to make an impression, send a little bag of Prozac too.

If you are sure wine is something she would like, it might be ok. However, keep in mind that most schools are Drug & Alcohol free zones, so the gift could not be given at the school.
I would hesitate before giving wine, but then again, you know her better!

Giving any form of alcohol to another person as a gift is tricky, unless you know them very well. How about a $10 or $20 gift certificate to a family restaurant such as Applebee's or gift certificates to Einstein Bagels or Starbucks. That way the recipient can either use them or re-gift.

I have thought about that and I know of a student that did that last year. My husband says no, but I don't see the harm myself if you have a young child and you bring the gift to school. But a teenager no. They might drink it! lol
