Its a habit like smoking and drinking. Most do it because their friends dip snuff and most favor the same brand. My B/F says he dips Skoal because it relaxes him. I say its the nicotine and chemicals that he body now craves.
He tried to quit and lasted 1 week but became so angry and temperamental. His family, friends and myself couldn't deal with the anger issues so he had to start dipping Skoal again. His body is addicted to Skoal and no other snuff will pacify his addiction because of the anger issues.
I say its nasty, its harmful to their health but there isn't a product on the market that I have found that works to help break the addiction. He used Skoal Wintergreen Fine Cut for 19 years and he's 29 now, its a hard habit to break since he grew up with it.
Also there are girls that dip too especially redneck girls ;p YUCK!

It is a habit, just like smoking. For me, it started around 13 while playing sports. Peer pressure contributed to it a bit, but there was also something about it that made me relax while competing. I would advise anybody before they start or who has just started to STOP. It is more addicting than smoking and is very hard to break.

It is started through peer pressure, and watching baseball players do it, but you become easily addicted and it is very relaxing. It is gross to other people, but like beer, coffee, or smoking, you just grow to love it.
