it is more expensive in the short term. given a few years (maybe even like 10), your savings in heating and cooling costs will pay for the more expensive startup cost, and continue to save money down the road (and these costs to the consumer will always increase, but not yours!).

Building a house using ecological methods can become very expensive if you let it. For example....if you install skylights for heat, water drums for heating water or eco-friendly appliances, you will most likely add thousands of dollars to the cost of your home. However, the long term benefits and savings will eventually pay themselves off.

Yes. Keep looking however. Cement is an energy efficent material, as is compressed straw coated in adobe, or plaster. Wood is the expense and the least able to keep a house liveable, yet its used traditionally because it was availiable in large amounts. Thats no longer the case.
