Luckily, I live in a neighbourhood where everyone that has a dog, seems to have control over them. Not much barking at all. My 10 mth old dog still barks a little, but only if someone comes to my door. I would mention to the neighbour that it bthers you and suggest that perhaps they should stop leaving him outside for too long. A bored dog tends to dig, bark and become aggressive, or whatever. Not all cases, but mostly. The dog may be bored and if the owners avoided that by playing with him more, leaving him outside less, walking him, etc. Some people leave their dogs out almost 24/7..which is fine if they are behaved. Barking collars do work, and it may seem harsh, but if its the only option..then go for it. Good luck. Just know that you shouldn't have to put up with it all of the time. Tell them how ou feel.

YES! I am a breeder and mine know when I go outside and say shut up they better get in their dog houses and be quiet. I am one of these owners who can mostly tune out the barking dogs and sleep through it though; but some owners will not make their dogs be quiet and it gets all the dogs wound up!

Not to mention I live in a rural country community where their are NO noise ordinances! So calling the police is out of the question; I did that once and was told it was not their problem to call animal control and animal control told me that they couldn't do anything about it since there is no noise ordinance!

So what do I do? I go outside and yell at my neighbors dogs and tell them to shut up; if they won't I sometimes use a silent dog whistle on them; and for the persistent ones I have a nice LOUD bullhorn that I will turn up to level 8 volume and yell at them and if that doesn't shut them up I make sure to wake the neighbor up by pushing the button to where the ear piecing whistle sounds.

Yes, it bothers me. My neighbor has three small dogs (rat terriers, etc.) that I kept in the upstairs bedroom while the neighbors are gone. The 3 dogs sit in the window all day and bark at everything, because my neighbor leaves the curtain open, which encourages the dogs to bark non stop.

Just call the cops, and your neighbors will eventually get cited for a noise disturbance, which will force them to take care of their dogs!

I am so glad you asked that question. YES - YES - YES - YES - YES -. I live in Spain and there are a lot of dogs here (mainly kept outside) for security reasons. I think their owners must wear ear muffs to deaden their incessant barking. There have been a lot of cases of dog poisoning here. Not by me I might add. Funniest thing is the dogs can bark and bark during the night, all night long but the owners cannot hear them, how does that work. Everone else can.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

On one side of us the bloke has 4 dogs outside in a kennel and someone's cat takes great delight in winding them up by having a wash just out of their reach. Sounds like somebody's getting killed. Wish i had a gun.
