I would not do anything to the affected area until the doctor okays it. You might want to give the doctor a call and tell him how sore it is. This may be a normal part of the healing process. At any rate, it will ease your mind until your appointment. Good luck!

I think it has become red by being slightly infected. So keep it clean and do not get it wet. An alcohol wipe might help but I'll warn you it will sting. Only wipe AROUND the area and NOT into the wound. An alcohol wipe such as the wipe they use before you have an injection. But pain to one side, it will help reduce infection around the scar, or the risk of getting a worse infection. Keeping it clean is important but if your stitches are coming out this Thursday that would suggest it's well on the way to healing.

First, call the doctor's office. You should be able to speak to a nurse. Ask her what you should do about the soreness and how to keep the wound from becoming infected.
Does your insurance company have a nurse hot line? Mine does, and I can call up and speak to a nurse about any problems I might be having. Find out if you do, because it can save you time & money.
Basically, I'd just keep the wound covered with a sterile bandage. Don't touch it or let fabric rub on it. It's weird that your doctor didn't go over wound care proceedures with you. Check out your paperwork to see if he wrote anything about it.
Good luck & I hope you feel better soon!

Apply aloe vera, preferably the the plant itself or Forever Livings gelly. It will stop the itching, reduce the redness and protect from infection.

First of all, I'd call the doctor and tell them how red and sore it is. Then ask them if it's okay to use neosporin on it.

Keep it covered, and if you want a bath / shower, wrap some cling film around your arm.
If it does happen to get damp, remove the dressing, and re-apply a fresh one.
