Please don't answer if your going to point out that 'you shouldn't drink at all if you are going to drive!' Thats been said so many times and won't help answer the question.
I sometimes have 1/2 pint of lager after work, then something to eat, then drive home and I know thats well under the limit, but I was curious to find out, how much the average male would have to drink before going over. My guess is 1 1/2 pints. So if you drank 2 pints and waited a hour to drive would you be good to go?
I wonder if these facts aren't known to discourage any drink-driving.
Whatever the amount is, a responsible driver would keep well under that limit and as I said before I'm asking out of curosity

from my own experience, anything over 2 units you will be taken to the station...they say that a unit an hour followed by a glass of water will be ok for the 'average' person....example a pint of stella is 2.5units.....

The average allowance is about 2 units of alcohol. This could be 2 shots of a spirit or about 2 pints. But it can all depend on the persons body mass etc. If I have just half a lager, I get tipsy so I do not drive at all if I have a drink becasue I am a light weight. But my boyfriend is quite a big chap (tall, not wide, not that it matters) and he can have about 3 pints before he even feels like he has had a drink. If you are going to have a drink, its useful to know that the body processes alcohol at one unit per hour so if you had two units, after 2 hours the body would have processed this so you would be fairly safe to drive and not be over the limit. But the best advice of all is that it is better not to drink at all if you plan to drive.

It depends what kind of lager you're drinking. The legal drink driving limit is 5 units for an average man. A half pint of beer at 3.5% is one unit. So if you were drinking something stronger like Stella or Guiness you wouldn't be able to have as much.
The body breaks down alcohol at a rate of approximately one unit per hour, but no alcohol is broken down during the first hour of drinking. So however many units you drink, that plus one is how many hours it'll take for the alcohol to leave your system.

There are many factors that come into play, but the amount of alcohol one can imbibe before reaching the legal limit depends on the body weight of the individual, the amount of time one has been drinking and whether that person has a serious tolerance built up from prior drinking experience.

Yes. I think you should be able to have 2, wait an hour, and drive. The people who think that nobody should ever even have 1 and drive are f%^$^%n ridiculous. It's not someone who had a Miller light and then drove who kills people, it's DRUNKS. People who are INTOXICATED. People who can feel they have a huge buzz and drive anyway. And it's too bad if someone can't see that, because it adds to the problem. This is a free country. You should be able to have a couple beers, for the love of God.

as a matter of fact for some people a 1/2 pint CAN put you OVER the "limit" it depends on your weight and metabolism speaking as a female I know I weight 97lbs and with a full pint I start to feel the affects and have failed the tests after only one drink depending on what it was.

Eating something helps slow down how fast your body absorbes alcohol but it all depends on your body weight. The more you weigh spreads your BAC= blood alcohol content over a larger area.
