Trying to lose weight for my wedding- it's 11 months away so I have a good amount of time to lose it. I want to drop about 50 pounds which would put me at a healthy weight of 140 and I am 5'4". I am not naturally a thin person and it's really hard for me to lose the weight. I just joined a gym and I know I have to start counting my calories. Any other advice??

Okay. I hate counting calories. I'm just lazy concerning that. I switched to low fat or no fat things. Low fat yogurt, cottage cheese, salad dressing, etc. Also switch from beef to turkey or chicken. If you have beef make sure it's the extra lean. There is ground turkey that is great and tastes almost the same.

My personal trainer suggested eating many times a day and not the 2-3 standard meals. Eat breakfast (force yourself if you have too), then there is a mid-morning snack, then lunch, mid-afternoon snack, then dinner and maybe a small dessert. When I switched to this I was eating very small meals ALL the time and never felt hungry. But I admit I back-slide sometimes. (more often than I would like to admit)
Example of my day:
B-cup of tea w/ sweet and low sweetener, low fat yogurt, fruit and nut granola bar.
Mid-Morn. snack - Kashi bar (easy to eat on the go, I pack it in my purse)
L- Sliced turkey sandwich w/ cheese (I still eat full fat cheese, I just can't give it up) w/ mustard on it. NO mayo. A serving (maybe 2) of BAKED potato chips. A piece of fruit. (I like apples.)
Mid-After. snack - Half of a peanut butter sandwich with a piece of fruit.
Dinner - (Personal fav.) Taco salad w/ spiced ground turkey (quarter pound of meat for each salad). LOADED with vegetables. A little bit of shredded cheese and low fat ranch dressing.
Dessert- Some low butter popcorn or fruit topped with low fat whipped cream.
*********Drink a full glass of water with every meal.***********

Concerning the Gym. 3 times a week cardio and 2 times a week strength training. I need to be more dedicated, I only get in 2 times a week for cardio and I don't do my strength training. Which is why my results are lacking. (I've only lost 10 pounds in 2 months.) But my weight is moving in the right direction! (really for the first time ever)

Concerning eating out. I do this. I order what I like. (anything I like, seriously.) Then when the meal comes, get a to go box IMMEDIATELY. Put half of what they give you in the box. Then enjoy your meal. Take the left over home and tomorrow your lunch is already planned. Stop going to fast food. I have two fav. fast food joints that I only go to ONCE a month. (I couldn't cut them out entirely...I really do like them.)

Now, you will have more dedication than me. You are loosing weight for a purpose. I'm just loosing weight, because I HAVE to for my health. I need to find a purpose to help w/ my dedication.

Congratulations on your up coming marriage!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

I did the Special K diet for a short time and it worked rather well, if I'd been able to stick with it it'd done better. Just make sure your weight loss is done slowly and in a healthy way, if you crash diet to lose weight, then you'll more then likely gain back double, it might be good to ask at the gym and see if they can give you advice on what diet will work best. I think generally 1,200 calories a day is a good amount.

Drink lots of water and cut back on stuff like cokes and coffee. It's empty calories that you get nothing out of....replace it with water and it will help flush some of the toxins that hold onto fat out. I feel you on hard to lose weight, Ive got 3 months to go and I wanna drop 10 more pounds and its not gonna be easy at all, never has been, but cuttin back on soft drinks really helped me. I did slim fast in college and it worked, but I wanted to throw myself off the roof cuz I stayed hungry! Also, so you can still eat what you want, like if you go to mcdonalds or something, instead of getting the value menu, get a kids meal. Its the portions your sposed to eat anyway, and it saves you like up to 500 calories! start walkin a couple of miles a few times a week and that will help you out too.....hope some of this helps! good luck!

Start slow and stick to the plan. It's easy to give up after just a week of work, but you have to wait at least one month to see actual results.

If you are not a gym bug, then you can try walking. Walking one hour a day burns 300 calories and won;t even feel it.

Do not eat or drink anything after 7 PM.

Pack your lunch instead of buying it.

AVOID at all cost fast food restaurants and buffet style restaurants.

Do not consume alcoholic beverages. They are the diet killers. A beer is nearly 300 calories, Take three beers and you have ruin your whole day of diet and exersise.

Take plenty of fluids. Water or diet sodas, unswetened tea. Stay away from sweet sodas, they will make you bloated and will make your sugar level high fast, just to drop quickly again and make you hungry.

Consume fiber. High fiber cereals such as Kashi Lean or Total will make your digestive system operate more efficiently and make you feel full.

Say NO to fried foods. Try to bake and poach instead of frying.

Yes, you can have a cookie, but just ONE. That is it.

The idea is PORTION control. You can eat everything but in moderation. You have to avoid big meals that make you feel full and miserable. Eat smaller sizes (try eating of a smaller plate) and more often. Yes, eat 6 times a day instead of tree, just smaller portions. That will keep your metabolism up.

STOP when you are going back for seconds. Drink more water after finishing your plate and go for a walk afterward to jumpstart your metabolism.

And post a picture of a thinner person on your refrigerator and pantry. So everytime that you feel the crave for ice cream , you will see the picture and discourage you to overeat.

Throw away ALL junk foor from your house. ALL of it. Chips, cookies, icecream... all of it have to go, Go shopping for better snack alternatives.

There no sense in eating salad if you are going to put a cup of greasy Ranch dressing on it at 120 calories a table spoon. Switch to a low fat salad dpritzer or just olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper.

Read labels on food. If it contains more than 13% of saturated fat on it, you don;t need to eat it.

I hope this helps.

Good luck

Healthy eating: Avoid junk food, fast food, fried and foods containing lots of sugar.
Smaller portions and eat on a regular eating pattern like Morning, lunch, and dinner.
Drink plenty of water, add some ice and use your favorite glass.
Walking is the best exercise and helps a lot in many ways.
Climb steps and no elevators.

Well, I did the whole gym thing and I think its harder to stay on track if you don't have someone to motivate you. NOw I am in a cardio kick boxing class and I love it. Its an awesome workout, you loose about 800 to 1000 calories each session and I have never felt better, its awsome.... It great too because you know your working everything, legs butt, stomace, arms all in one, one hour workout.... You should look into it, I go to a place called L.A. Boxing.... I believe they have them all over the county. GL
