I can easily tell what copper and brass are, but sometimes I get confused about aluminum and stainless steel. Sometimes i find old pieces of lead that I mistake for aluminum. What tips are there to positively tell metals apart? ( I don't always trust that guy at the scrapyard, either).

Aluminum:
1) will never have brown rust on it, it will be white oxidation.
2) will not stick to a magnet.
3) is very lightweight

Steel:
1) may have brown rust or none at all (if it's stainless)
2) sticks to a magnet
3) is medium weight

Lead:
1) unless it's actually rusted (brown), will have a dark oxidation coating on it like silver gets
2) sticks to a magnet
3) is very soft, can be cut or scraped with a knife or bent with your hands
4) is very heavy because it's so dense

metallic or Heavy metallic as that's time-honored is a subgenre of rock. metallic is a lot heavier in sound and texture. that's louder. that's extra severe in that's suggestions-set to revolt against society and commercialism. Heavy metallic is definitely no longer approximately adult adult males in wigs donning makeup."metallic" is arguably louder than "rock" yet then once you're comparing Deep pink's 119 db to The who's 118 db does it actually matter selection? metallic makes use of a oftentimes denser timbre texture if no longer a denser harmonic texture. lots of that's attitude. i does not evaluate skinny Lizzy a metallic band even however they have been certainly approximately harder rock. yet even with the undeniable fact which you you prefer to categorise them they easily come closer to enjoying rock or metallic than Twisted Sister.

A magnet will always tell you which pieces are steel. Every guy in the scrap yard will have one, I bet.
