I will always leave a shadow of doubt. I like to foster the spirit of Christmas. The magic.
"When you stop believing in Santa, Santa stops coming."
I use it with humor but it's always fun to believe in Santa. My 11 y/o is learning how special Santa is to younger children and how fun it is to keep the spirit alive - even though she says she doesn't believe anymore, she believes in keeping the secret special for others. My 8 y/o simply doesn't care. He'll say whatever he has to to keep getting the presents under the tree.

My parents let me figure it out on my own. I don't think I would tell my kids, it would probably break their heart finding out their parents don't believe in Santa.

my little sister's 3rd grade teacher had the kids write a journal entry about when they found out santa wasn't real...she believed up until then...my stepmom wasn't too happy with that teacher...

Never teach them about Santa, then you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, let the realization slowly dawn on them instead of making a sudden, harsh dose of reality.
