I have lost approximately 40lbs over a period of 3 months and have noticed that my lower back has been hurting recently when I sleep and wake up. Is it possible to get backpain from losing weight?

HI there!

First off, congrats on losing the weight!

I don't think that is the reason. If you have been exercising in conjunction with your dieting, you may be straining your back with lifting or cardio (eg. running) through incorrect form or something along those lines. Another thought is that your body might be adjusting, since your shape is changing.

I would recommend stretching and having a trainer at your club analyze your form during exercise. It is good to have someone knowledgeable help you.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

it shouldn't unless you are over doing the exercise bit. Maybe you are having kidney problems. Drink some cranberry juice and see if that helps. Put a heating pad on the area that hurts and ease up on the exercise for a while. Hope you're better soon.

Are you drinking enough water? That could cause back pain, especially if you are limiting your food intake through diet. I had back pain too, but it went away when I started guzzling water. Or if you are exercising and not stretching properly, that may be the problem, as well.

OMG! that means that you are losing a lot of muscle instead of fat on your back!

It happened to me! I needed to prop a cushion at my back every time I sat down because of the pain and discomfort. (I lost 20lbs in 2 months)

This is what I did, Incorporate a low carb protein shake for lean muscle after every workout! and use a lot of weight machines that work on your back muscles!

That helped me with my back aches, it should help you!

I hope that answers your question!

Goodluck!
