Yes, it's true that the caffine found in coffee and soft drinks may be affecting your sleep paterns. However, there may be more to it than that. I also have trouble sleeping, and I've been dealing with it for about 10 years. Here's some tips that the Dr. gave me.

1. Don't drink or eat anything that contains caffine or stimulants after 4p.m.

2.Excersis before you go to bed like a 20-30 walk, then take a long shower or bath. This will not only help you stay in shape, but it's very relaxing.

3. Believe it or not ,but this really works: SMELLS!! For ex., the smell of vanilla, lavender, or chocolate are extremely comforting. So I drink Hersey's Night Time hot Coco(no caffine) and it's warm and comforting. Flavored Celestial Teas are good as well( no caffine). Buy either a box of Lavender dryer sheets place them inside your pillow case , or an oil with a soft relaxing smell from like Bath and Body Works and sprinkle a few drops on your pillow and sheets 2x a week. SOOOOOOOOOOO Relaxing!

4. Try Melatonin a natural sleep aid. I know I was kinda unsure of this one,but believe it or not it works very well. It will knock you out, and "IT HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS O THE GROGGY NEXT DAY HANGOVER FEELING". non-habit forming

5. An OTC(from a drug store) sleep aid with 50mg of Diphenhydramine HCI. Don't waste your $$$ on the name brands , just look for that key ingrediant. They say none habit forming, but you can become addicted to them ,becaus ethey make you fall asleep so quickly and easily. Down side "YOU WILL FEEL VERY DRUNK THE NEXT DAY" :(
So try other other options before you buy an OTC sleep aid.

Finally, sorry to talk your head off,but I so understand how it is when you need to fall asleep and can't. You may have anxiety issues. For ex. You're worried about something in your life, and you constantly think about it over and over, like you can't turn off your brain. I found out that I have a fear of being late to work or school, so I stress about it waking up every hour. AHH AAHH can't be late. Then I would get sleep anxiety(Anxious about no being able to sleep)!

So G'luck, Be smart, and stay Safe, and get some sleep!!!!

p.s. Also reseach has shown that if you don't get a good nights sleep(6-8hrs), the following day you tend to take in nearly double the caloric intake:(

Cola and lots of other products contain caffiene which is a stimulant and can cause you to have difficulty sleeping. Eliminate all cola and caffinated products from you diet like Mountain dew for a week and see if that helps. If not you can try a warm bath before bed, warm milk, Melatonin, valarian root or some Bendadryl aka diphenhydramine to help you sleep. If after not drinking or eating anything with caffine for a week and trying some of the other suggestions for a while you still can't sleep then you may want to see the doc.

Yes, cola does contain caffeine which will keep you awake. Steer away from that and instead drink a glass of wine (if at least 21) or try having a warm glass of milk. Unwind a bit and read. Try to clear your mind and close your eyes and imagine you are floating on a cloud. It sounds weird, but it works for me!!

Cola does not contain coffee, it has caffine. But caffine makes you go crazy and if you drink it at night, you can't fall asleep.

Coffee or cola do not have anything with insomnia,

Before sleeping I always drink coffee.,and I sleep well.

Diffiulty to sleep well , is mental problem. You had better look at your inner part, not cola or coffee.

prehaps that you are used to your body timetable meaning that you need to start giving up cola through the night and drink something healthy like milk or orange juice as that contains omega 3

Not just caffeine you have to watch your sugar intake. Stop eating and drinking a few hours before you go to bed. Everything except water. Food is fuel, anything you ingest is going to provide your body with more fuel to keep going.

Caffeine is keeping you awake.

You need your 8-10 hours of sleep at night.
Soda makes you have a predisposition to diabetes and obesity.

Can you substitute with decaf tea? or herbal tea?

GOD bless.
