Do the research and find out before you call it hooey.
"Mayan Prophecies" by Maurice Cotterell & Adrian Gilbert just to name one source. It's not the end of the world but the end as we know it. Not so much as the roll over of the calander but the result of sunspots and tectonic activity that happens in cycles.

The mayan calander rolls over from 12.12.12.12.11 to 00.00.00.00.00 on December 24, 2012 (some say Dec 23).

What they fail to understand is that Mayans did not consider this the end of the world, only the end of the age. They fail to understand that the mayan calendar actually has SIX values, and we will roll over from 0.12.12.12.12.12.11 to 1.0.0.0.0.0

It's the same thing that happened with Y2K. People had 2-digit years, and when 2000 rolled around, that 99 was going to roll over into 00. That wasn't an end of the world, just an epochal rollover.

It's based on the incorrect idea that the Mayan Long Count calendar ends on 12-21-2012, but it doesn't; it simply rolls from 12 Baktuns to 13,

I think it has something to do with the Mayan civilizations calendar beliefs. It's called the Maya Cosmogenesis and it's when the world will recreate itself once again. I honestly think they may have been on to something, I mean they built pyramids and invented "0" and chocalate. They were obviously pretty smart or just trying to freak us out.

The bible tells us that no one not even the angels in heaven will know the hour or day. Thus the parable Jesus spoke of when telling about the thief. If you know He is coming you will watch but if you do not know the day or hour then you must be prepared in advance because He could return at any time.

I guess there is some Mayan Callender that is supposed to run out then.
Before I'd ever heard of the Mayan Callender, I had around that year figured out by Daniels prophetic book.

I just wish these "end days" B.S.ers would put their money where their mouth is. I mean, if there's only a little more than 5 years to go, then they could stop paying for health insurance, their kid's education, pension & savings plans, etc. They could give all this money to help the poor for the few years that are left. OK, I'm holidng my breath.

The Mayan calendar runs out in 2012. All the loonies have got very excited about this, seeing it as PROOF (of course) that the Mayas knew something we didn't.
