This is despite the fact they are friends, he is not a player, he talks (phone, ym, chat etc) for hours on end, says he feels 'content' or 'at peace with her' and tells her everything thats happening in his life...but still wont be interested in anything 'serious'. But wants her really really badly (and she wants him too but is confused).He is single.

Maybe he is very mature, and he realizes that just because you want something, you don't just go and take it! "Nailing" someone has consequences, emotional and physical. He may turn out to have a lot going for him. Or he could just be playing hard to get.

well if he wants you soo bad... nothing will stop him.. he maybe doesnt want you.
any way if you want him try this trick it always works..
if you r freinds.. tell him that your taking his opinion if you should date this cute guy that asked u the other night,,, but ur not sure because he is (older, shallow,---u make it up)...
i know its lying but then he will fear to loose u if he is interested in you he will make a move..if he is not he wont make a move..
p.s. dont forget to tell him after it with a day or 2.. that yes u went on a date and hated the guy

I agree with one of the other respondents. It sounds like the guy wants the advantages of a relationship with none of the responsibility. Be careful with this guy.

This sounds like a boot call. Guys tend to get attached..to our bodies. And, they're great actors..because when it comes to gettin some, they are ready to show all emotions. I am not saying your friend is playing you, because he may really be into you...or into what your giving him.

it sounds like he wants and friend with benefits and that he wants someone to love and care for him and not do anything back in return..... he wants to play the feild and get laid even if it could possibly ruin the friendship
