When I'm stopped at a light, the idle on my 1998 Ford Escort wagon keeps switching from normal to high. It does this back and forth the entire time I'm stopped. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I would have the car tuned up. I know that when out escort was doing that I had to change the plugs and wires. I reccomend the Bosh plugs and wires. Also Check what the car Idols at when it gets warmed up! It should be at about 750 RPM

Have your oxygen sensors checked. That was the problem when the same thing happened to me.
