I'm looking for some ideas for gifts to take to the kids at a children's home. We've got some teddy bears. What other gifts can we give? It must be something we can get or make before Christmas day, so it will be in time for Christmas.

I know they all must not be little children. Teens and tweens like any type of bath and body products, little make up kits, anything to do with beauty, I am referring to girls. Tiny purses like to carry lipstick and change in, etc.

I wrapped present for kids in shelters over the weekend and it was really sad how little there was for the older children. There were tons of dolls, toys, and stuffed animals for the little ones, but the pre-teens and teens get left out. Sports equipment, music related items, and clothing are really good for that age.

My office took up a collection for a county foster group home, and they actually sent a list that said a big fat NO to all plush toys (lots of the kids have allergies and asthma). They asked for board games, books, arts and crafts supplies, and new clothes for toddlers, and diapers and pull up training pants.

Try to stay away from things that need battery's and have and excessive amount of small parts. Try to stimulate there mind as well as give enjoyment. Maybe things like roller skates,a ball and glove, things they can take out and interact with others and get a bit of exercise.

Board games would also be great for the kids to play and learn things at the same time.

I think that every child gets bored very easily in the winter, so one nice thing (that also works for either sex) is small craft kits. They have cross-stitch, drawing, colored sand, beads.....the list is endless and it helps kill many boring hours for young children. Good luck!

depending on there age and how much money you are willing to spend - a scaletrix is a great toy for boys

and for the girls i would say dolls or activity pack like, jump ropes n stuff.

How about some of those pen and pencil sets - Tescos have them quite cheap. I used to love those when I was a kid.
