Alcohol has no nutritial value - but lots of calories.

It is said that good red wine has some good stuff in it, stabilizing cholesterol... and it raises the mood!!!

same criticism can be offered on many other things however - and not with the same advantages. I'd say that in moderation it is fine.

I think that experts say that wine in moderation (like 1-2 glasses per day) is good for you. Also, I think that champagne (1-2 glasses) for special occasions is no big deal. But other alcohol (like beer and hard liquor) is definitely not good for you. Especially a high amount of consumption. If your family genetics shows a history of alcoholism (especially from immediate parents, etc.) than drinking at all would not be advised as this can be more addictive. One or two beers or alcoholic drinks (not full bottles) per day is not going to harm you unless you are allergic but this is generally not the best for your health. This effects your liver, I think. Just do not drink and drive.

There are two aspects to this question: psycological and physiological, and both really have the same answer. It depends in moderation alcohol is actually healthy(up to 3 drinks a day) in excess it is extremely harmfull i.e. cirrosis of the liver, mental impairment, etc. Psycologically it helps you relax and is enjoyable as long ans there is no need for it as an escape. Judaism does not prohibit alcohol at all rather an excess of it, Islam prohibits all consumption and I'm not sure where Christianity stands on it. Cheers!!!!

The last statistics I saw: with moderate daily consumption, defined as 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 drinks per day, every day, with no binge drinking, results in an average increase of lifespan versus teetotallers of 2,4 years for males and 1,6 years for females. It is theorized that red wine provides the greatest benefit, followed by rich ales.

The doctor recommends one beer a day to help my irregular heart beat. And it's good for your nerves when your upset.

Are you joking? No, it is not in excess, but wine is known to help reduce high blood pressure when used in small, appropriate increments.

Absolutely not. It dehydrates you like hell, and it's really high in calories.
