Mine was a guesthouse in Tokyo that a friend booked me into, thinking I would like to stay in the cheapest place available. On arrival the owner wouldn't let me into the place before disinfecting my bags. Then he showed me to the, um, very retro room. There was a TV with a meter that I had to pump coins into. Haven't seen one of those since the 70s! There was only hot water available for about 1 hour per day and he told me when I wanted it switched on I had to shout very loudly. There was an 11.30 pm curfew. Of course I came back from my night out at 11.35pm to find myself locked out. There was a sign on the door with a number for me to call. I spent the next 2 hours phoning before he answered.
By this time I was a little bit annoyed so when he did let me in I picked up my stuff and went to the airport and slept on a bench until my flight departed.
No wonder I was the only guest. He was a bit of a loon.

Wow! I don't think my experience can top yours. Me and my boyfriend rented a room in COlton, ca. As we were getting into bed, I saw a BIG period blood stain (or I think it was period blood). My Boyfriend freaked out. It was gross. My boyfriend went to complain for a new room. As I was packing, I noticed red specks on the head board. There were also some on the wall above the headboard. I FREAKED. I just grabbed everything and ran outside. It was so creepy.

I remember arriving in Manila Philippines very very late with my lonely planet guide with no where booked to stay. Tried hotel from guide but full so they (hotel owner) guided me to another hotel in a back street and then up some stairs to the sleezy dirty room where I slept for one night with my friend crammed in to a single bed. We slept fully clothed (the light was as powerful as a single candle but we could see just enough to know it was not as clean as we would have liked) which after waking in the morning to see the room aaahhhhggggggg!!! I think the linen on the bed had been there and never cleaned since the hotel was openned and was covered in stains of colours I had never previously seen. Fortunately we had slept with our clothes on and just had to put our shoes back on and leave without touching the filthy walls and furniture.
I'm sure if I had looked around the room in the daylight I would have seen numerous insects and creatures that were the perminent resisdents!

I was working in Cardiff once, and the admin lady in the office booked me into a hotel there.

She was one of these tossers who want to save the company money all the time - you'd think it was coming out her own pocket.

I checked in, The place was shabby and grim, but what the h#ll.

When I went down for dinner I knew there was something wrong. Just couldn't quite put my finger on it................

Then I realised - it was a knocking shop! Every other woman in the place was having a drink with a "customer".

I phoned up the Holiday Inn and shifted my a*se pronto.

There are two different ones for me and I can't decide which was worse.

Mario's Hotel in San Juan, PR. Our plane was overbooked, so we had to stay an extra night in PR. This "hotel" was infested with roaches and the walls were paper-thin. We could hear the couple next door to us and gunshots at night.

The Adventure Inn in Reno, NV. We eloped to Lake Tahoe to get married and got there early, so our hotel wasn't ready. The Adventure Inn had theme rooms and it just stank of b.o., so I'm sure that with all of the hooking up going on, that we were sleeping on top of many would-be babies that missed. Pretty gross.

Mine was one in Disneyland Paris. It was a catalogue of disasters, and what was worse they didn't seem to care. Even when I took it to management level.
