I think you can be in the room with her, holding her hand etc. I don't think you can have her sitting on your lap though.

Are you taking her to a children's dentist or a regular dentist? I recommend taking her to a children's dentist. Make the experience as positive as you can. Do not feed her fear, be calm cool and collected. Act like it is no big deal. When you get to the dentist let the people who work there do their thing....my girls have been going to the dentist since they were two years old(at that point all they did was sit in the chair, talked to the dentist, got a new toothbrush and brushing lessons) and I haven't been in the room with them since they were 4. It is crucial that they feel in control and confidant when going...or they will look for any excuse in the book not to go as they get older.

My middle daughter had problems with her 12 yr. molars and had to have all 4 crowned, with baby root cannels done. She was in kindergarden at the time. She did it on her own and was great even though it hurt a bit. And we moved out of state after the first one, so she had to get to know a second dentist while getting the other three done...she did great and is great about going even now...and those teeth are long gone. My youngest just got her "phase one" braces off ...and the only time I went back is when they needed to explain what a new appliance was and what it was doing and when it would come out. She loves going to the dentist to show off her pretty teeth!

Sitting with her on your lap might help in the short term, but that is up to your dentist's office policy. You might be better off spending the time taking a tour of the office, having someone explain what all the equimpent is for and how it works, and letting her look into your mouth and watching you get your teeth cleaned. Sometimes kids are scared of the unknown and there are alot of those in any dentist office. Information and a bit of tough love may be your best long term answer. Good luck!

My children's dentist won't let parents go back with the kids they say that the children act up more when parents are present. Have you tried staying in the waiting room? staying in the waiting room is a horrible feeling may hurt you more (like taking the kids and you know they are getting a shot) but our children over a few visits did much better! Our dentist also offers a sedative if they are getting work done or laughing gas which will help relax them. And then sometimes you just have to skip to the only thing that will work...Bribery. Maybe a few dollars and a trip to the toy store for good behavior only. And maybe she can take a stuffed animal or a security item back with her.

Depends on the dentist but I think you should asure her you'll be waiting when the dentist is done and let the office staff work with her so she developes trust. Ya gotta let go some time...as hard as it may seem now, you're not doing her any favors for later.

i'm not sure if you can actually have her sitting on your lap but just let her know that the dentist wont hurt her and thatyou'll be there the whole time. and you can always hold her hand. and if you really wanted to you could atleast ask if she could sit on your lap? its worth a try and i'm sure they will understand

The dentist's job will probably be made even more difficult if your head is right next to her head (no offense). Everyone goes through these things in life where they hate doing things. Eventually, they come around and learn to deal with it. It's one of life's lessons.

I let 3 or 4 year olds sit on mom's lap, so why not??? If it helps her cooperate, sure.

if she was three then i can see why you would want to carry her... but shes already seven... thats old enough to learn how to sit in the chair by herself... talk to her about it and tell her its not a big deal... if your really worried that shes going to be too scared i would give her kids benadryl to calm her nerves... the first time only... doctors have told me its ok to give kids benadryl when going on a plane to calm them down... i dont see why it would be any different. but im not a doctor so i would ask one first.
