or on the other end of the scale that the world owes them nothing?

Is it possible to clean the slate once a person has seen themselves as victimized and move to a place of personal responsbility instead of living out some, however subtle, reaction to the past in your relationships with people?

For some it's an excuse to blame the world for everything. Even if victimized (which is a shame), you have to get past it. Life isn't always fair but you have to move on, and hope you will be alert and never be victimized again. Victimizers will always be out there, it's part of the deal.

As those people get older they may have a hard time adjusting to any relationship but it's a choice and it comes a time your old enough to make that choice and the world doesn't owe them anything but a big hug for getting through the storm and living a much better and productive life.

You're lumping the entire human race together when asking the first question making it unanswerable. Its all reletive to the situation and indiviguals involved on how they react to childhood abuse.
To answer the second, yes it is possible to start over again, but the impitus for this has to be their's. Only when the victim decides they are ready to move on, can they.

It appears to me that EVERYONE thinks the world owes them something, victimized as children or not

Everyone can move on from any situation, if they really CHOOSE to, and work at loosing the self-pity attitude. The world doesn't own anybody anything, it's all what the individual thinks of himself.

You can always move on but what has happened will always affect your relationships with people because it is part of who you are. Good luck in all you do!

It seems like it - they really should just get over it although I realize that it can be hard sometimes.
