Every American I have ever met think that the English Language was made by them and therefore is theirs. Some even say, 'oh, why dont you speak english properly like us and not put a u in colour,' it is really irritating, if you just look at the name of the language, it is called English, NOT American, which is what you call it sometimes!!!

Well you must not have met a lot of Americans then because most Americans do not think that English was "made" by them. English as do most languages has many dialects. In American English there are differences in spelling, pronunciation and idiomatic expressions. It's not bad or good; it's just different. Languages evolve especially when separated by a large ocean. So British people are not butchering the English language and neither are Americans. These are merely two different ways of speaking and writing the same language.

English evolves, perhaps moreso than any other language. It's organic. Even the form of English you would call proper English is mostly a hodgepodge of Latin and Greek forms borrowed by the Angles and Saxons...with sprinklings of Arabic and hundreds of other languages thrown in.
Any American who says "colour" should be "color", well, let them. These are simply alternate spellings, but colour was the original one. And if they call their language "American", they're simply distinguishing it as a dialect distinct from British English...they're not claiming Americans invented the English language.
I've heard educated Americans use American English beautifully. I've heard uneducated Yorkshiremen use their local dialect of British English beautifully - although an Oxford professor might cringe and recommend elocution lessons. Who's to say how "proper" one is compared to the other? "Summat" instead of "something"? All forms of English have their distinct beauty, although it's easy to dismiss somebody else's dialect as substandard or improper. English is a crazy, mixed-up language, wherever it's spoken, and it's a beautiful thing nonetheless. Perhaps we can leave it at that?

Why do white human beings concern difference plenty ? in no way-the-much less, white usa inter-marries with Hispanics far greater (a million.4 Million 2000 census) than with the different U.S. team by using far. This comprises the two genders in ruffly equivalent numbers. those 2 data recommend an acceptance of Hispanics that Asians & blacks (the two between the latter are at decrease numbers & lopsided in choose of one gender) don't have. they are assimilating interior the main ordinary way.

Guess you think you own it. Americans speak a form of English brought over from Britain. They modified it. Britains speak another form of English. Spelling and pronunciation make some parts of it different. The British are so proper with their version. Americans became free of English domination so they made the version we speak their own. Britain dominated the world at one point. They conquered countries, raped the land of its resources, and made puppets of its inhabits mistreating them in every since of the word. The Americans stopped that so I think we deserve the right to call our version our own.

Well, you might have a point. Our English is properly tittled American English. I think I would find it difficult to make an argument if your question read: "Why do Americans think their dialect of English (American English) is the predominate form of English?" The number one answer to that would of course be that Americans are proud of their form of English.

the English language is like the flame of a candle, everyone can light his candle from that flame and the flame would not change.
So the British, American, Australian, Canadian and many others all own the language, and it does not lose anything by these ownerships.

English is going down the drain anyway, whether British of American.

As to your question: Why do they think it is theirs?

Tell me ONE thing that the Americans do NOT think is theirs!!!

What else would their clownish president give the moral justification to play world police all over and wherever?

I thought the Americans murdered the English language. There is something about it in My Fair Lady. in the first song Henry Higgins sings about the different languages. It is funny but sometimes I think people who didn't speak it originally can speak it better than people born speaking it.

To Saehli: Exactly! americans suck. and that's telling you something because i have been an american my whole life.
