Hi.. i am 25 year old Female. i have Throat pain that is only there when swallowing cold liquids. Its not like a sore throat but a shooting pain that radiates to my ear. it has been a year now and i am still not diagnosed with anything. i have been to the doc 5 times and once to an ENT where they cannot find anything wrong. i constantly have mucous draining down the back of my throat and one of my tonsils is Asymetrical (dr says its fine) i just recently found 2 little lumps (about the size of a B B) on both sides of my neck ( one on each side) if i had throat cancer wouldnt i have more symptoms after a year? i do cough but i have asthma also.

one more thing.. i have dental work that needs to be done. it has needed done for 2 years now. they had to cancel my app due to my being pregnant and now i am pregnant again. whatever blood work they do when you are pregnant.. i know they check for anemia etc.. came back fine. i also had my wisdom teeth removed a year prior to the throat pain. and was left with a half numb tongue and shooting pains in my gums. could this surgery be related? i know one of my wisdom teeth were wrapped around the nerve and thats why i never got feeling back.

I'm not a doctor, but maybe having your tonsils removed would be a good idea.

Wow, you need a second and third opinion if you haven't been diagnosed with anything in a year! Find a different doctor, one who will do a COMPLETE and THOROUGH examination. I was going to say it sounds like mumps until I read the one year part. I don't know what's wrong, but if you can't get some kind of satisfaction from the doctors you've seen, keep looking, perhaps and ear, nose and throat specialist would be best for this, whatever it is. Hope you feel better soon and that you find out just what's wrong, hopefully it won't be serious!

Find a new doctor or be more demanding with the ones you work with. Insist on more diagnostics. Don't allow them to turn you away. If necessary, go to the ER. Now with the lumps, you have to take an even more aggressive approach. If your doctor doesn't know, he doesn't know. Find another doctor, even an oncologist practice. Hopefully it is not cancer. I have no medical training or experience with anyone with throat cancer. Don't jump to conclusions; but do jump up an down until someone gives the condition and you the attention you deserve. Someone in the medical profession must be able to diagnose and treat this for you before any more time goes by. I wish you all the best. BE BOLD AND MAKE A SCENE IF YOU HAVE TO...IT IS YOUR LIFE AND YOUR HEALTH.

you may have strep. I would go to yet another Dr or go to the health food store and buy some grapefruit seed extract. You put about 15 drops of the stuff in some juice. It tastes bitter, but it really works. I had sinus and sore throat and chest congestion for about three months. My Dr gave me a z-pack and that didn't work. I went to the local health food store and they recommended the grapefruit seed extract. I took it three to four times a day and got better within about a week. It doesn't have the side effects of an antibiotic, the yeastie beasties. Good luck and take care of yourself!!!

I would suggest seeing different doctors to get it checked out. There are many different symptoms which come with cancer fatigue is one of the most common and after a year of having it i would imagine that you would be extremely fatigued so this could be reassuring. I can only suggest seeing other doctors and having blood tests run as a lot of cancers show up in the blood so this could set your mind at rest for that but still may not diagnose. Good luck :)

I have read all of the 17 or so answers you have received thus far and they surely give you some GREAT suggestions. I think I would add to see a really great dentist and/or an oral surgeon. Some of your problems almost sound like they COULD be dental issues. I truly wish you good luck and good health. I KNOW what it is to remain undiagnosed for a long time and how discouraging it can be. My prayers are with you.

It sounds to me like the lumps you feel are enlarged lymph nodes. These usually indicate an infection of some sort. Is your doctor aware that these are swollen? The shooting pain suggests to me an ear infection, while the drainage may indicate a sinus infection.
Talk to your doctor about a course of antibiotics to see if this solves the problems.

Please keep on top of your doctors [or change doctors] until you get a satisfactory answer. I'm not trying to scare you, but I started out fairly close to what you're describing. [to include dental pain] I went to ENT, Gastro, and finally, a surgeon. The surgeon was all set to remove my thyroid when he did a fine needle aspiration of the swollen lymph node at the base of my neck and, oh by the way, it was Lymphoma. Check this site for info, and to see if you have any other symptoms: [night sweats and itching?]

If it's nothing, FINE. If it's something bad, there are GOOD treatments out there, please try not to be afraid. You need to get answers, and please keep pressing on until you do.
Best wishes

Try different doctors until someone is willing to look further into it. If the dental surgeries mark the time that it all started then perhaps it should be looked into by a dentist?

The best you will find here is some general advice, and some bad advice, your best bet is to keep seeking proffessional help.

have your doctor do some blood tests to check your thyroid levels (if you havent already). the lumps in your necks might be from your thyroid glands swelling.
i have actually had similar symptoms myself for a few months, and my blood work was normal. i'm suspicious that its all related to my nose ring causing scar tissue to develop in my nose and thats causing drainage issues, and effecting everything on the way down. so if you are at a dead end, but you have a nose ring, it might be that.

You may have an infection, and there are glands in your nack that may be swelling up to try and block the infection from spreading to other parts of your body. I suggest going to another doctor. Trust me doctor's are horrible now. They couldn't even tell me I had a sty in my eye and I went to two different one's. I figured it out myself and got rid of them myself , and figured out what was causing them .. myself lol. Yeah, so it may be what I said, or it could be something else, so I suggest a third doctor :-)
