John
Chapter 8
1
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2
But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them.
3
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle.
4
They said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.
5
Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?"
6
They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
7
But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
8
Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.
9
And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him.
10
Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
11
She replied, "No one, sir." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, (and) from now on do not sin any more."
12
Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
13
So the Pharisees said to him, "You testify on your own behalf, so your testimony cannot be verified."
14
Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I do testify on my own behalf, my testimony can be verified, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going.
15
You judge by appearances, but I do not judge anyone.
16
And even if I should judge, my judgment is valid, because I am not alone, but it is I and the Father who sent me.
17
Even in your law it is written that the testimony of two men can be verified.
18
I testify on my behalf and so does the Father who sent me."
19
So they said to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."

Absolutely hilarious! You can not be a Liberal and believe in the Bible. Yet, when Jesus was teaching about the laws... such as the Sabbath, I would say he was a Liberal... not a Conservative. Considering the other Jews there with him were getting on his case because he wasn't following the Letter of the Law (You weren't supposed to do ANYTHING on the Sabbath, just rest... you weren't even allowed to start a fire... all your food had to be prepared the day before). But here was Jesus, "working on the Sabbath". Cracks me up how people want to place others in a category of their choosing and of their own personal definition. hehe
I'm not a Christian... though I would like to know how they reconcile different moral issues... such as Slavery. I'm sure MOST would say Slavery is wrong, yet that is not a "moral issue" in the Bible. The Bible shows quite plainly that there is nothing wrong with owning Slaves.
And I wonder how they can get soo upset over Homosexuality and yet say it's OK to get a Divorce. Especially considering we have one of the highest divorce rates in the world.
Stem Cell will probably be knocked down... unless someone actually looks into it and sees that there are benefits to this type of research. IF they have someone close to them who has a disease and could benefit from what they find in this research, then and only then, would they agree with it. But right now, all they know is that embryos are being used.
I agree, responsible choices are okay.

Homosexuality--- everyone sins and falls short of the glory of God
Divorce-- not condoned in the bible, unless it is adultery that causes the divorce.
Abortion-- murder. Life starts at conception and children are a gift from God. If He did not want that child born, then why would He have allowed it to be concieved in the first place?
Stem cell research-- honestly? I'm not sure on that one.
Sex outside marriage--- You know that already. Is it a moral thing to do? Do YOU think that it is a moral thing to do?
Now about your last comment. Just because someone feels that something is a sin, never gives them the right to judge. You are right, God loves ALL!!! But, you must realize that we WILL be judged by God, and He has clearly outlined in the bible what is acceptable and what is not.

"Do I have to feel a certain way about these things?" - No, we feel as we wish, but we follow what God says.
"Is there a definitive right and wrong?" - Yes
"Is God testing our reactions to these things?" - Yes and no. He isn't testing us for His own findings, He already knows. He tests us so we can see "these things" for ourselves. In other words, a test is done only for the benefit of the one being tested.
"Homosexuality" - the act is wrong, but the person committing the act is still precious in God's eyes.
"Divorce" - is allowed and tolerated by God, but in His eyes, if you are truly married you will stay that way. Those that wind up getting divorced were probably never meant to be married to that person.
"Abortion" - is so wrong on so many levels, but I don't think God sees it as a sin, so much as He sees the pain of the family involved and has compassion. It's wrong for the mother's body, her mind, it's harmful on all sides and should be avoided.
"Stem Cell Research" - Is a good thing, I think some people went way into left field scaring the public with visions of baby mill factories where women were impregnated just to abort so they could have the cells. That's ridiculous, and I think everyone knows it. There are enough little babies that die naturally at birth or before without having to go to such lengths. It would be the same as organ donation in my mind.
"Sex outside marriage" - sex means babies, and marriage is not just open admitted responsibility between adults but is the net that the resulting children will fall on. For a baby, having two parents means advantages at the start of life, a guarantee of care. For the public community, it means more than likely the community will not have to provide a measure of care for the child. So sex outside of marriage is wrong, a baby needs to be claimed by both parents to stand a chance in this world.

It relies on whether or not you might be defining morality in only human phrases, or whether or not you think there's an external drive, larger vigor, or God, who makes the principles. If there is the sort of being then the morals are those which that being communicates to us. Should you say you take delivery of the teachings of a precise holy guide as being the divinely inspired words of that being, then the ethical laws and guidelines laid out in that book are the ones to are living with the aid of. If these guidelines state that homosexuality is mistaken, then for believers of that faith, it's wrong. However, they will have to follow the principles for "the best way to treat different folks" equally. When you do not feel in any exact God or better vigour, then morality is much more bendy and which you can set it as you prefer. I think a number of the problem that religious individuals have with homosexuality stem from the minority of very politically-active homosexual rights campaigners who have pressured a very express attention of the dilemma into the media, and even faculties. Possibly militant homophilia (if there is any such word) is an equal evil with homophobia!

Here's an atheist's perspective (and I do not speak for all atheists... there's no dogma attached)
Definitive right and wrong?
Certainly not. Lying is the more ethical thing to do in some circumstances... as well as killing.
Is God testing our reactions?
Well, as far as we're concerned, God doesn't exist.
Homosexuality-
Not a 'sin', not an 'abomination', not 'wrong'. It's the way some people are.
Divorce-
It happens. Seems to happen most often among the religious.
Abortion-
Should be done as early as possible before the embryo can be said to have any self-awareness.
Stem cell research-
INCREDIBLY misunderstood by those who have no scientific thought processes. Could cure cancer and/or AIDS.
Sex outside marriage-
Uh... hell yes. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I do believe that our lives are a test and a learning experience. I believe there are definitive right and wrongs according to the Bible...God's word. I believe that God loves all of His children no matter what their sexual preference or any decisions they make. God loves us all but doesn't love some of our choices and decisions. Our actions is what He doesn't like. I believe that divorce is ok if you are in an abusive relationship or your spouse cheats on you, I believe in abortion when it is medically necessary or in the matters of rape and incest...I do not believe in using abortion as a form of birth control. Stem Cell research...I believe they should test on the frozen eggs but not grow them specifically for testing and it is better to wait to have sex with your life partner. I am a Christian who tries to see all sides of the story before I make a decision. I know that God is sad at some of the choices we have made as a society, but He loves us all unconditionally.

1. Well Homosexuality is wrong, Romans 1:24-27. God still loves them but hates their sin.
2. I think there is only 1 reason why one can get divorce.
3. Thou shalt not murder.
4. Stem cell is wrong as well. They might be able to create a person but they cant give it a soul. When they do this they are trying to be like God.
5. When God created Adam and Eve they became husband and wife and then he said for them to multiply the earth.
6. Thats whats wrong with this world to many people who are liberal. The bible shows us how to live. Thats God's love letter to us. But many refuse to think God is still like that. They think he has changed cause the world has changed. Jesus said I change not.

What do I think? I think it's not what we think that matters. If there is a God, it's what he thinks that matters. Where do I stand on these issues? I try my best to understand what God says about them in the Bible, and then take my stance there. Some of these issues are more clear in the Bible than others. If you are truly seeking, read through the New Testament in 2007 and see what you think in December next year.

black and white homosexuality is wrong! but mercy and forgiveness make a penitent Gay person under grace.
Divorce should never have to happen, but the authority give to peter was to Loose and bind which applies to divorce and marriage as well. if divorce is good for those that commit adultery as a righteous reason for getting a divorce than a husband who beats his wife should also be righteous grounds for divorce.
Abortion is wrong, fornication is wrong too, but if a girl has an abortion for the cause of rape or incest or for her immediate Health and life is concerned it is more merciful to get absolution from God.
Stem cell research is Not life and death, it is health and knowledge
sex outside of marriage has been defined as fornication and God had John write a letter to the nicolatians and called their fornication an abomination.
I believe God is liberal when it come to give things people need but i think he is also conservative without how much he gives and how much energy it takes to do soemthing
