showed up in my barn last night. His back is all twisted, but he can still run. He acts like he wants to come to me but won't. What is the best way to catch him so i can get him to the vet.

Leave it alone, it might be diseases, and if it bites, you could be in serious trouble.

The person who just answered your question has a point, but I couldn't let that poor animal suffer either.
I've had to catch litters of kittens & other stray cats that turned up in my yard before. If you call your vet they might know of a local animal organization that helps stray animals. They can lend you an animal trap. It doesn't hurt the cat, it's a cage you put food in & when the cat goes in the door closes. Then you take the cat to the vet in the trap. If you are concerned about getting scratched or bit through the cage wear heavy gloves & clothes when you carry the trap. The vet knows how to deal with this type of animal. If it's feral, they will sedate it so they can examine it. Hope this helps.

That's really really kind of you. If you are a bit leary about handling the cat, you can borrow a humane trap from a local animal shelter and bait it with canned cat food. Then take it to the vet that way. Or you can lure him with some really strong smelling canned tuna.

My cat's back wasonce injured and he coudn't make full use of his back legs for weeks. The vet told me that he might never be able to walk normally again. But I refused to accept that and did "therapy" on my cat myself by walking him around in a halter and leash - walking then climbing up stairs. After a month, he could run. After 6 weeks he could jump from the floor to a chair. After two months he was back to normal. Cats are amazingly resilient.

I hope your stray will have a similar happy ending to his saga of the "Twisted Back." Let us know how you do, K?

I hope that you can get a professional from animal control or a humane society to trap the cat. A severely injured cat could be very dangerous because its level of pain and fear is extrememly high and you do not want to risk a bite.

The humane trap is the way to go if you cannot get help. Animal control officers might be faster, safer and better for the cat though.

I hope the cat can be helped and commend your feelings about giving him the help he needs as fast as you can.

try giving him a little food. chicken or meat or even a tiny bit of milk...start by putting it out when he is watching you then step away so he feels comfortable enough to go to it, do this a couple times a day and each time move a little closer to him when he eats the food until he gets used to you. make sure you bring an animal crate or box with you so you can hopefully get him and put him in there right away because you don't want to hold/carry him to ling in case he bites and scratches...it is very nice that you are willing to help him, there should be more people like you.

Break out the Tuna, chances are he's hungry. Set it slightly away from you. If you can get him to eat, don't move, but rather talk to it in soothing tones. Then if he doesn't run you can try approaching it very slowly. It will be a time consuming job to catch him. I suggest having a pet carrier, or large close-able box at the ready. Wishing you the best of luck, I love my animals too.

Trap him in a Have-a-heart live trap (put food inside) and take him to a vet immediately. He might have been hit by a car. Poor thing. I hope you can get him help.

we havesome stray cats that come around the block and it took them a while to get used to us but they finally come near us. all we did was give them food by setting outside our door and being outside alot and letting them see us putting the food down

You should be able to rent/borrow a "cat trap" from your local SPCA. It's humane, baited with food, and you don't have to touch the cat.
