What you describe is a sty, I think. It could be due to an ingrowing eyelash, or and infected follicle or pore- much like a zit on the eyelid. If it is caused by an eyelash, in the next few days or week you will see the eyelash near the surface of the bump. If it is an infected follicle or pore, it will form a whitehead, like all zits do. In the meantime, quit poking at it or it will get much worse. Apply heat packs, like a washrag heated in the microwave to just your tolerated heat level, or do steam facials. The heat will spead things along, to either encourage the eyelash to come to surface or the whitehead to form up on the top. At that point, if you see the eyelash and are comfortable with the idea, you can use a tweezer to try to free the hair. It will hurt to do it though, so it's your call. If you see the whitehead forming, continue to apply heat or do steam facials. It will drain all on it's own, without any assistance needed from you. The eyelash will do the same thing, if you prefer to wait. If after a few days of doing the heat/steam facials it still hasn't decided what to do, then you should see an opthamologist- a regular eye specialist, not the guy who fits glasses. He can do more to resolve the lump than you can or should try on your own. But in the meantime, aside from applying heat, don't do anything else. You do not want or need a major infection in the area of the eye, and that's what you will risk by messing with it.

It is actually called a sty and it is the response to your eye to foreign particles. There is little you can do at this point except wait for it to go. There is no good science to recommend why this works but I have found (and I have had a sty or two before) that placing a cool washcloth over the eye does help sooth the pain.

Unfrequently you can have antibiotics prescribed for these but Ophthalmic antibiotics are typically expensive and if it is infection based it will resolve on its on in a few days.

Sorry for the discomfort.

First see your optometrist because they are eye specialist. Doctors may end up sending you to one anyway. But if you don't have enough funds then by all means go to a clinic first. In my experience they just hit or miss and I end up going to a specialist.
But hurry cause they the eye is very important!
