canadian immigration process?

If a person is currently in Canada with a visiting Visa how can he or she change his or her status to immigrant status or what are the possibilities of applying as an immigrant and how fast would it be provided the person the required qualifications.

Canadian system is more transparent and straight forward, and less paper trails needed than the American system
