It normally happens if you have been bending forward to low. For some people who are not very flexible this causes mild discomfort. If this is continually repeated then pain in the lumber will persist.

The best way to heal this is to simply rest. I had a bad back, and my fitness coach advised me to do Pilates. I only went to two classes and the pain has gone. Prior to the class I could walk properly without wearing lumber support shorts.

Hope this helps...

Pulled muscle
Something wrong with the spine (damaged discs bugging nerves)
kindey stones

That's all I've got off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's more.

You could have a strained or pulled muscle. If not taken care of, allowed to rest and heal, it'll effect the rest of your back because of the way you walk to accommodate the pain.
Go to your doc and let him take care of you or go to webmd.com and see what they suggest.
