cake, but I didn't have time. The butter and cr. cheese have been out of the fridge since Friday and I'll probably make the cake tonight. Should I buy fresh butter and cr. cheese though?

I never refrigerate butter, unless it's real hot out and it'll melt.
Cream cheese? Is it hot in your house? If it wasn't opened, I'd give it a taste.

The butter will be fine, but I would not use the cream cheese. It goes bad after about 6 hours.

chuck the old stuff straight in the bin , because that is indeed what it is --- stuffed ; and make sure you bake the cake before you get side tracked . good luck.
p.s food poisoning is not a pleasant experience --- don't risk it !
